Daniel Espiritu | Software Engineer

I'm a Junior at the University of California, Irvine looking to combine ML/AI with the spacetech and engineering industry through my physically applicable programs.

I build everything from high-fidelity particle simulators to earthquake prediction ML models. If you love physics, let's talk.

Projects

Einstein's Playground

A full-stack undergraduate physics simulator and learner. Integrated with AI to track performance and aid learning at every step of the way. Includes topics from all general physics courses ranging from basic kinematics to circuits and relativity. Also includes miscellaneous topics from other physics courses.

High Energy Particle Simulator

A particle heatmap generator produced to aid NASA's Europa Clipper flagship mission to explore the Jovian moon for traces of life. Simulates the complex trajectories of 27 million particles through a multifarious magnetic field and tracks their landing location. Utilizes parallel processing and C-level compilation to cut down runtime.

QuakeAI

An XGBoost Regressor tree machine learning model that can predict the magnitude and depth of an earthquake with 85% accuracy. The model was based off of a dataset of ~10,000 earthquakes of magnitude >= 5.0 ever since 1980. The model predicts within ±0.5 magnitude and ±100km depth at a high rate.

Miscellaneous Programs

A collection of many different classic programs recreated in my own style. This collection includes a recreation of Tetris (C++), Minesweeper (Java), and a Scientific Calculator (JavaScript) inspired by Desmos that supports nested expressions, multiline operations, and edge-catching/error handling.

NASA | Software Engineering Research Intern

As part of the Europa Clipper ICONS program, I engaged in a 10-week summer internship to aid in our current understanding of radiolytic processes on Europa (one of Jupiter's moons). There, I worked alongside NASA officials, co-interns, and graduate students to reach new insights about Europa by using numerical modeling, data analysis, and lots of debugging. At the end of the internship, I presented my work at the 2026 Europa Clipper Conference in front of ~100 NASA officials.

Moorpark College | Course Embedded Tutor

As a Course Embedded Tutor at Moorpark College, I was integrated within multiple math classes ranging from college-level Algebra to Calculus. In this role, I facilitated weekly study sessions and exam reviews which greatly improved student performance in many ways (detailed on resume and LinkedIn). I collaborated with Mathematics department faculty to provide an effective and inviting learning environment for college students.

Moorpark College | Math & Science Tutor

As a Mathematics and Science Center tutor at Moorpark College, I serviced 20+ students per day in a range of topics including: Calculus, Physics, Computer Programming, Differential Equations, Linear Algebra, Statistics, and more. I've been approved by faculty partners to tutor any of the lower division Math, Physics, and Computer Science courses. In this role, I demonstrated mastery of the aforementioned topics through detailed explanations and teachings.

NASA | NPWEE Program Lead Engineer

As Lead Engineer for NASA's Proposal Writing and Evaluation Experience, I directed all engineering and scientific related contributions for my undergraduate research team. In this, my team of ~5 student researchers crafted a 7-page NASA-level research proposal targeting one of NASA's historical pain points. I organized team meetings twice per week, coordinating alongside subject matter experts in the fields pertaining to our project. I also served as a panel member during the evaluation phase of the program, leading discussions to constructively critique a handful of other research proposals.

AILA | Undergraduate Research Lead

As part of the Machine Learning program at Artificial Intelligence Los Angeles (AILA), I completed the Stanford-certified Deep Learning Certifications, and served as the Principal Investigator & Project Manager for my undergraduate team. There, I produced an machine learning model that was able to predict the strength (magnitude and depth) of an incoming earthquake using a forest of XGBoosted Regression trees. I presented our team's work at the culminating conference, earning "Most Innovative Project" and "Best Use of AI" awards.
